Little League BaseballThe Canadian Dewatering Braves won one and lost three in St Albert over the weekend bringing their season record to 7 wins and 6 lossses. The Braves started of strong with an 11-3 victory over Vegreville.
Ian McFawn got the start and victory, with help from Regan Gillis, Brandon McWilliams and John Young who collectively gave up only 4 hits. McWilliams and Young both struck out the side in their single inning of work. Warren Kragnes, Rubait Azhar and Young each had two hits in the win.

In the second game on a sweltering field Saturday, St Albert got 3 runs in the first inning off starter Azhar, and the Braves could not catch up in a 7-5 Loss. The Braves mounted a late 7th inning rally and had the tying run on second base when the game ended on a routine ground out. Ryan Wright had a triple to the wall in a loosing cause.

Sunday morning, The Braves started well, with the first two batters crossing the plate in the first inning, but the Beaumont pitcher kept the Braves hitters off balance for the rest of the game as the Braves dropped an 8-2 decision. Carter Uliac pitched well in his 4 plus inning of work, the game was still close at 3-2 after 4, but Beaumont scored 3 in each of the 5th and 6th to put the game out of reach. The Braves did manage 7 hits off Beaumont, Young had two hits to lead the way.

In the final game of the weekend, the Braves rode another strong pitching performance by Brandon McWilliams to stay with South Jasper Place through the 4th inning tied at 2 . But the opposition got to the bullpen, and coupled with some defensive miscues by the Braves infield, the final score was 12 -2 for South Jasper Place.

The Bantam Braves have next weekend off before entering the final two rounds of play between June 27 and July 5 preparatory to the provincials in late July .

Oil BaronsIt may be the off-season but the Oil Barons are busy preparing for next season. The MOB have shipped veteran forward Dave Carr to the St. Albert Steel for a pair of '91 born players.

In exchange for Carr and Future Considerations the Barons picked up forwards Justin Rose and Markus Gerbrandt. Both Rose and Gerbrandt are 18 years old.

In 19 regular season games as a 17 year old last year Rose scored two goals and had two assists.

Gerbrandt spent last year playing Midget AAA with C.A.C. in Edmonton. In 34 games Gerbrandt had 16 goals and 9 assists for 25 points. He did show some power-play finish as 11 of his goals came on the man advantage.

Carr spent three seasons with the Oil Barons scoring 30 goals in 152 games. Last season was his most productive with the team as he finished with 34 points in 61 games. Dave will join his younger brother Daniel in St. Albert.

NHLThe Stanley Cup was in the building, but the Pittsburgh Penguins made sure it was put back in its case.

It won't be handed out until Friday night at Joe Louis Arena, when the Penguins and Detroit Red Wings will play a Game 7 to determine this season's NHL champion.

The storyline couldn't really get much better. It's either going to be a fifth championship in 13 years for the amazing Red Wings or a win that puts the resilient Penguins in the record book.

They've got a chance to become just the second team ever to bounce back after losing the first two games of a Stanley Cup final on the road. Even though Pittsburgh has appeared to be down and out more than once during this playoff run, it still finds itself one game away from glory.

NHLAccording to his agent, Dany Heatley is seeking a trade out of Ottawa for reasons that have to do entirely with hockey - and not with the city itself.

"It all has to do with hockey. It all has to do with the hockey environment he's in," Heatley's agent JP Barry told Sportsnet.ca on Tuesday night. "It's just about where his situation is with the team."

Heatley has asked for a trade out of Ottawa, just one season into a six-year, $45 million contract he signed in October 2007. But after signing that contract - just four months after the Senators reached the Stanley Cup Finals - the fortunes of both Heatley and the club have taken a turn for the worse.
